Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay shook hands on Earth's highest peak in 1953. They had taken a British expedition on the first successful summit of Mount Everest. (Or to refer to it with the traditional Tibetan name, Qomolangma). What followed was what some refer to as a second golden age of mountaineering, at least regarding Everest. Not by frequency of summits, that spiked in 2018 with some 800 people. We are talking about an age between the 1950s and 1980s where the mountain, and mountaineering in general, received increasing media and cultural attention.
Imagery popularised by magazines from the tailend of this period is the inspiration in our Hiking Club Hoodie. Simplified through a stencil effect, we've coupled a mountain range with blue and bold text that spells out "HIKING CLUB". Brand cohesion over time is important to us, so we couldn't resist adding the classic "GHOST-SPLY" text to the bottom as a returning feature. The front design is a small echo of the back, this time in all-blue. Just like with our previous Hiking Club T-shirt, it is printed on the left chest. The hoodie itself is light grey and so can be suitably paired with all manner of other clothing colours. Made from a blend of 50% cotton and 50% polyester, this piece is one on the heaviest hoodies on the market, weighing in at around 1.1kg.
The Hiking Club Hoodie is the follow up to the similarly themed t-shirt, except this time, we’ve explored a simpler design path with a different garment type and different colours. Stay camped for our next release which will be different once more, while still staying true to the inspirations outlined in Entry 1 of our Journal.
