ENTRY 3: NATIONAL PARK

ENTRY 3: NATIONAL PARK

Following on from Hiking Club, our latest design is inspired by the themes of North American National Parks. Whether it’s the kaleidoscope of colours at Yellowstone’s hot springs, the cliff-top waterfalls of Yosemite, or the tranquil expanse of the Rocky Mountains. National Parks mean different things to different people. For this design, we try to draw on all of this inspiration but in our trademark simple approach.

The front sports a badge on the left chest, with design cues from vintage national park service badges. You’ll see these periodically on your travels through the American wilderness; at an entrance way, on the back of a park ranger uniform, or a decal on the side of their Ford Explorer truck. Our badge frames a hand-drawn Grizzly Bear in addition to GHOST-SPLY text, all screen-printed in white. Again, a multitude of animals come to peoples’ minds when they think of the national parks of the US. For us, we had to include the Grizzly. It has been a famous (or infamous) staple of the American wilderness since the Nineteenth-Century expeditions of Lewis and Clark, and in Native American culture before that.

The back graphic has also been hand drawn and depicts an explorer kayaking through the stunning scenery of the "GHOST-SPLY National Park". The backdrop should be familiar to you. We try to include aspects from different parks, such as sheer cliffs, waterfalls, twisting rivers and redwood trees. A weathered look throughout completes the front and back print, to give this t-shirt a more vintage look and feel. As if you could have found this in an American National Park souvenir shop in the 1990s.
